social standards

I was talking with one of my friends and we were talking about how admased we were that most of our friends are either not going to college or only going to a 2 year college. Ever since we were little you are told that is what you do go to emilentary then jounior hight then high school, and then college. My dad even says to me all the time that is what a person does in their life. My dad when I was little never thought school was important and would always take us out for little reasons. In our society it also is hard to find a good job without a college education, so my question is to those people what are they going to do when they can't find a job?

Racisim

It suprises me at wshen I talk to my friends how many of them a racist. I thoughtg that in this day and age people were not racist. It still happends all the time around me I here people use the "N" word and other racial slurs. I have gotten mad at my friends for using the "N" word becasue I feel it should not be used at all no matter if u r black, white, or orange the color of your skin does ot matter it is a derogatory stament that I feel shouold not be used. People think it is ok for them to use racial slurs if it is twards their race or religion. I don't see why people feel this way. It goes back to that saying you are taught as a child "if u have nothing nice to say then don't say it at all".

lower income workers

Seeing this movie made me relize really how lucky I am. Some times I complain about my parentws becasue they are divouresed, but I never really stoped and thought about how lucky I am. I should look at it that I just have that many more people who love me. I also am never told I can't have something beacuse there isn't enough money my parents always want the best for me and will do anything, so I am happy. I would think as a kid being told no you can't have something to eat becasue there isn't enough money for it would be so hard as kid becasue you don't understand why. When I am sick or something my parents don't even think twice about taking me to the doctor or if my parentws are sick we dont think twice about going to the doctor we just go. A family with a low income has a much different life style then someone like us who goes to Stevenson. I never really thought that I had a that much better life, but seeing this movie made me relize that I do.

blue Collar workers

In the movie Tammy was brought up in a poor family with lots of kids. She is now raising a family that is poor and she has a lot of kids. I think this is because this is how she was brought up and what she saw as a kid. I think social classes are learned when you are little. It also seems hard to get out of your situation and have a better one when that is all you know. tammy knows she is poor, but doesn't really know how not to be poor i think becsue that is how she was brought up and it is all she has known her whole life. It seems like her kid are ashamed and want to be like everyone else. They also almost aqt times seemed ashamed of their mother becuase she works at burger king and does not have a licence or a car. I give her alot of credit becasue she could jsut take the esay way out, but instead she tryes her hardest and no matter what walks 10 miles to work I don't know alot of people that would do that.

film calss

In film today we were talking abot comedies that they make them funny, so teens can relate to them. They also make social norms the opposite. For example the ugly nerdy guy always gets the girl and things like that. In super bad it is about a bunch of teenagers that are nerdy and wish they went to paries. I think movie makers do this becuase they know that everyone can relate to it. It is funny to how we think the movies that make fun of our society are funny.this really shows that are society is messed up as a whole.

my sisiter

My sister's teacher had a conference with my step mom and dad, The teacher told my step mom that my sister needed to realize the difference between reality and things that are not. My sister is 6 years old and her name is Hannah. My step mom looked at her with confussion and asked her what she meant. She told my step mom that Hannah has been talking about a 18 year old sister and her name is Lindsey. My step mom looked at her and said Lindsey is a real person and Hannah does have an 18 year old sister, but she just doesn't live with us. My step mom told the teacher that now a days with divourse being so common that she needs to ask parents before she jumps to conclusions. It is crazy how people can just jump to conclusions without knowing any facts at all.

Blaming others

it seems like everyone is trying to put the blame on someone or somethin on why these school shootings keep happending. It seems that we need to do something about it. Did it ever accture to anyone that maybe the reason is our society and the media's influence on teens. EVERYONE tries to say oh they are troubled teens who have been teased and they come from a bad family when the reality is that they come from all different types of families and none had any high mental problems or anything like that. It seems that everyone in the society tries and points the finder at someone else, but i beleive that it is everyones fault, so there for everyone should try and fix it.

why do killings happen?

It seems like in our society we advertise to much about guns and thing. in video games it always seems like it is about trying to kill someone or there is a gun involved in the video game. Our society advertises to much that killing is an OK thing. This is why there are so many shootings and things. Also it seems like if someone has a problem it is just swept under the rug like everything is OK. At our school it seems like they don't really care about how the person feels it seems is just about how our school looks to others. So many people just think if they act like nothing is wrong then the problem will just go away, but when really the problem will just get worse. This is how things like Clumbind happens. I think we should do more as a whole to help people with their daily life problems and try more to prevent things like this from happening in the future.

bad situations kids are put in

My cousins adopted to girls from Russia who are biological sisters and one is seven years old and the other is about eight months old. The eight month old was not able to talk even Russan but was able to understand Russan when her and her sister came to America. My aunt and uncle told me that when they went to the orphanage there were many little babies cry and no one came to pay attenchion to them. My cousin that was 8 months old with in about two weeks of being with my aunt and uncle was able to start saying words in english because my aunt and uncle knew a few words in Russan, but not much, so they atarted to teach them english. At first it was very hard for all of them because my cousins knew no eglish, but after being around my aunt and uncle they were able to comunicate better and understand eachother. This just proves even more that as humans to communicate with others and be part of a society you need care, affection, and interaction.

Tuesdats with Morry

This movie really maade me think about my famly and my relationship with my family. My family is really important to me. My grandma is 65 years old and is in a nursing home. I feel there is no rerason for her to be there she is so young. She has bipolar and at random times goes off of her medication. I try and go visit her, but when i do she askes why i am I here. It makes me feel that she doesn't want to see me, but this movie mad me think that it isn't that she doesn't want me to see her. It is that she doesn't want me to see her in the situation she is in. My mom went to go visit her recently and I didn't go with hbeccasue I felt that why should I take time out of my bisy life if you aren't even going to appriate what i am doing. My mom said that my grandma looked horable and that she looked like she was half dead. This makes me want to help her, but the problem is she doesn't want help what do I do help her or not?

social things

It is so hard in our society to make your children not aware at a young age of brands and things. It is so sad what our society has come to. if you look around our school everyone wears brand name clothes and drives a BMW OR an expensive car. i think there is only so much you can do about this because it is our lives. sheltering your child can be a good thing, but i think there comes a point where you may not be able to shelter them as much as you want to.

the game

I could not figure out why i was so confused with the game when we switched tables. I thought that maybe i didnt understand the game or somethng, when really it was we had different rules. People tend to theink they are the ones doing something wrong when really they are not. I think this happends becasue people tend to be harder on themselfs then other people mite be. This may have somethng to do with our societ and the media becasue it always shows people the bad things. You never here about how a eleberity did something good most of the time it is what did they get arrested for now or what drugs did they do.

different customs

It is amazing how many different customs there are in one country. We all have our own way of living and culture we follow. It is crazy how we all live in teh same time period and how very different things can be like bathrooms and runin water. I never realized that in some countries they dont have runing water. I just assumed that in this day and age everyone had when that is not the case at all . it is so weired to think that people live so diffently then we do.

Social Construction of Reality

In the movie their reality in the neighbrohood is socially constucted of how people see them and what other think. At this time blacks were seen as bad people and that is why they think blacks are bad. Some unwritten rules are that you should not be a rat and tell on other people it is seen as a bad thing. The people in the neighbrohood don't mess with the mob becasue other wise they know they will pay for it. The people in the niebrohood treat anyone who is has anything to do with Sonny very well becasue they know he has their back. I do see the racist attitudes as a social construction becasue they seperate themselves by neighbrhood by race and others don't really get to interact with other racises becasue it is looked down at. They also swear at the blacks and call them names when they have not done anything.

VOLUNTEERING

I have volunteered before. I had to volunteered for environmental and it was really cold out. The people were really nice. we had to cut down trees. The person who was watching us told us about the environment and was vary nice. I also volunteered at a homeless shelter and the people were not so welcoming and others were. We sured them food and i think some people felt like you shouldn't bother and others were very welcoming. The children were happy to have someone to play with and had lots of fun. This showed me that is all depends on the type of people you volunteer with and what you do.

The Survivors of F-227

This aticle was grouse, but when it comes down to what they had to do I think I would have done the samething in order to survivge. Eventhough you don't want to think about eatting other people if that was the only way for you to survive msot people I think wouold have done the same thing. I see how this relates to sociology becasue this is how people acted in a bad situation and sociology is how people act. I look at it in the way that the people were already dead anyways and that it isn't like they are killing the people and then eatting them. I would never do something like this unless the situation was really bad and that was the only way for me to survive.

awkwardness of silence

I feel people think something is wrong when there is silence and it makes them feel uncomfortable. this is because in our world i think we learn that silence is bad. I don't like silence and I am a person who like to talk, so I just don't like when it is totally silent. Sometimes I think people just like to talk to here themselves speak, but I think talking is a good think and is good also when there are problems and things need to be worked out. Overall I don't think people talk to much. I think a lot of people do need to listen better and spend more time listening, but others are good at it. Our society doesn't yearn for "peace and quiet" because we are always at war and are trying to help people who in my opinion do not want to be helped. As Americans we are also loud and i don't think are society teaches us that we r to noisy. i have experienced awkward silence and i did feel anxious about it. My really good friends i can sit in a room with and not speak because they know me so well and can almost read what i am thinking or how i am feeling. we should be more comfortable with silence because it isn't a bad thing and it is truly golden. we spend most of our time looking for music because our generation is a lot about music and likes and we can relate to the songs we listen to.

I have never done blogging before, but it seems like a good way to talk with other classmates about this class and other information to do with school. Blogging seems confusing, but once you get the hang of it that it is a good idea.
